Empty yet full, the yin and the yang, the sea is a vast and ancient mystery. Ninety-seven percent of the ocean is pure water- the most familiar compound on earth. Yet its dark, expansive depths still seem unknowable. Homogenous and essentially simple through and through, the sea mirrors my complex yet straightforward experience of God. While painting this Entering the Ocean series, I felt like an explorer of the deep sea, delving in to extract and communicate its spiritual essence.
